Why Frequent Cleaning Is Good for Your Home’s Value
What is the frequency you need to clean your home if you want to keep up its value? That’s what we are looking at today.
Basic Cleaning Tasks Are Essential
There are some cleaning jobs that should be done almost every day. These include wiping down counters, taking out trash, sweeping floors, and washing dishes. These kinds of jobs may seem routine, but they are helpful for keeping pests away and allowing you to see problems before they develop into serious issues.
Doing these tasks regularly is great for your home, as it keeps everything tidy and looking good. Sweeping the floor is helpful because it reduces friction on the floors. The dust and dirt on the flooring can cause scratches and scrapes that are not good for the longevity of your flooring.
One of the best things you can do for your home to keep it in good shape and to ensure that its value remains is to simply clean it. When there are repairs to be made, yes, you will need to make these as necessary, but simply cleaning the floors, countertops, windows, and other parts of the home will prevent decay and keep pests out of the home.
Periodic Deep Cleaning Saves You Repair Money
One of the cleaning tasks we recommend for homeowners to have done occasionally is a deep cleaning. Now, the idea of a very detailed and lengthy cleaning will scare some people. It seems intimidating, we know, and you could always look for deep cleaning specialists in the area and have them do the work.
The reason you would need to do a deeper cleaning than the regular daily and weekly tasks is so that areas that are often neglected can get some TLC too. If you don’t clean under your fridge regularly, for instance, then food particles and mold can build up there. Those contaminants need to be cleaned out so that your home smells nice and pests are not attracted to it. This also ensures that your home is protected from the damage that mold and mildew can cause.
Anywhere in your home where water is present can be a place where deep cleaning will make a big impact. When these areas are cleaned well, you will be removing any sitting water and will be getting rid of mold and mildew. That’s not just good for your health; that’s good for your home’s health too.
Clean the HVAC System
When you clean your home for yourself, you probably don’t clean inside the vents and ducts of the HVAC system. Most people don’t, but that can be a problem over time. These parts of the house can become filled with allergens and other particles that are bad for your health and for your home.
We recommend a periodic professional cleaning of the HVAC system, and if you have that done, then this system will last longer. This is one of the most important systems in the modern home, right after water, sewer, and electricity systems. It needs to stay in great working condition, and in order for that to happen, it needs to be cleaned periodically.
Clean and Examine
One of the benefits of cleaning your home is that it gives you an opportunity to find issues that you might not have seen in your daily life. If there is a small leak in your home, you may not know about it until you go cleaning in every room, under every fixture and behind every appliance. That leak could continue for a long time undiscovered until you do a thorough cleaning of your home.
Imagine the leak continuing for a long time without anyone seeing it. The water could create mold growth or could damage flooring and walls as it penetrates the building materials. It could cause structural problems if left alone, and you would not even know about it until you did a thorough cleaning in that area.
So, as you clean, keep an eye out for problems that could affect the life of your home. They may be leaks, electrical problems, mold growth, pests, weather damage, or other issues that you could discover. It would be better to see them early on rather than wait until they reveal themselves through major damage to the home.
Exterior Cleaning Is Important
When you clean your home, don’t neglect the outside of it. Regular outdoor maintenance and cleaning will go a long way toward improving your curb appeal and boosting the value of your home. If you care for the plants and the lawn, then it will be easy to maintain the outside and to keep it looking nice for whenever you try to sell.
When doing exterior cleaning, always take a close look at the outside of the house. Look for holes, leaks, and the presence of animals. You could spot problems that need to be addressed as you clean. Make sure that plant growth is not right up against the house, as keeping it back at least a small distance will prevent a lot of issues.
You want to take your time with the exterior cleaning and do an excellent job. You may prefer to be inside cleaning, but this part of the home is important as well. There is always the option to hire someone to clean outside your home for you and keep up the lawn, trim the bushes, and do whatever else is necessary. But be sure to let them know that you are looking to preserve your home for a long time and that you want to know about any issues they come across with the home’s exterior.
These are just some basic bits of cleaning advice for homeowners who want their homes to last longer and be easier to sell. We hope they have been helpful to you as you plan for your future.
