What inspired you to start in real estate and how did you motivate yourself to keep going?
Always had a love of different homes and values of different properties and a fascination with beautiful homes and real estate in general. I had a few role models that I saw were young and super successful in the industry and I really wanted to achieve their levels of success and more! For myself, I treated it as I did sports when I was younger it was a constant struggle but i knew whatever I put into it hopefully would come out and then some. Luckily that mentality has helped get me to where I am today. Never focused on what I accomplished and constantly strive to do better and compare and compete against the agents that were and are doing much better then me. Its to this day a constant motivation for me to strive to get to the top of the industry but most importantly while providing the best service I can for my clients.
Comparing your business from back then to now, what has been the main thing that allowed you to expand your business?
I think honestly the addition of my amazing wife Jessica coming on board and running the back end of my business and the team. She organized me and took my business from
20-30 million a year to 100 Million plus a year! She’s the real MVP.
What’s the most profitable aspect of your business, why do you think this is and how can others apply this to what they are doing?
Overall I think it’s our customer service and the full experience we provide for our clients. Whether it’s a seller or buyer and no matter what the budget or commission is we try to treat each client exactly how we would want to be treated if we were on the other side of things. Our business is built on referrals and keeping our clients happy. I never cared about doing more volume to me each deal matters and I never want to leave a bad impression with anybody. The most important thing you have in this business is your reputation whether it’s with your clients or with the other agents in the industry and without relationships, you can’t get very far in life or in business. Pride myself and my team on doing right by the client first and everything else will always fall into place.
When did you realize you were successful/made it and how did you feel/celebrate?
To this day I don’t necessarily think or realize to what levels of success we have achieved but at the end of every year when we sit back and look at our rankings and achievements it certainly hits home how well we are doing. I definitely try to take it all in when I can and just enjoy it for the moment but realistically there’s always higher goals and bigger achievements to be had.
Looking back, what could you have done sooner to get to that point quicker?
Realistically the answer is nothing. Every mistake made was a lesson learned and every day that didn’t work out or every dealer didn’t close was a constant learning experience and still is. Nothing happens overnight in this business and to the people that think somebody is an overnight success or things fell from the sky that couldn’t be further from the truth. And overnight success can take 10 years to come to fruition and the reality is most people only start noticing when you’re succeeding but if you people are there when you’re on the climb and that climb is where you learn the most and surround yourself with the best.
What should other real estate entrepreneurs reading this be focusing on to expand their own business?
Concentrate on providing the best level of service you can for your client not on the commission check you can potentially make. Earning people’s respect and relationship will get you much further in the long run then closing a couple of deals but not doing what’s right by the client.
What do you consider the main differences between those people who have been successful in your industry and those who have failed?
The biggest thing I see on a daily basis in this industry is people that either try to justify their paychecks or make something a not pleasant experience and The saying a realtor is a dime a dozen is very true because anybody can get the real estate license but very few people actually succeed. The 1% of people actually make this their profession and career our professional a pleasure to work with and they’re concentrating on doing what’s best for their client and also making it an enjoyable transaction for everybody involved. Set the other 99% if they were to just take a small sample and implement what the 1% do it would be much easier to do business on a daily basis and maybe more ppl would be successful in this industry.
Final Thoughts
Very thankful for the constant outpouring of support and opportunity to continue to do what I love. Looking forward to what the future has in store for myself and the rest of my team!
In 2020, a very difficult year for many, myself and the rest of Team Blackstar managed to sell over 200 homes and north of $100 million in volume. We were ranked the number 30 team in the entire United States of all Remax teams and a top 6 team in New Jersey. I personally was the number 1 ranked realtor in commissions earned in the number one office in the entire Northeast which was a huge accomplishment. None of the success would be possible without my amazing family and incredible clients who have continued to support myself and my team throughout the years.
