How did you start your career in real estate?

I started my career in real estate 4 years ago when I came on with a small boutique firm in The Heights as their marketing coordinator. It was a great way to get a behind the scenes view of how real estate flows. Plus, it gave me a leg up on terminology, contracts, negotiations and marketing homes and agents…obviously!

Please also in 2 short lines brag about yourself, if you really had to impress someone about what you do, what would you say?

As your “laid-back Realtor” I make the real estate process as stress free for my clients as possible. I also utilize unique marketing skills to assist clients and just launched a social media coaching program for fellow agents and entrepreneurs.

What inspired you to start in real estate and how did you motivate yourself to keep going?

This is a great question! I honestly didn’t set out to become a real estate agent after receiving my BBA in Marketing from University of Houston – Downtown. But, life is funny that way and I was lucky enough to land a career in real estate doing marketing for my then broker and about 20 other agents. Once I started touring homes, talking with clients and listening to the struggles and success of others, I knew this was the right move for me. Real estate is competitive and has ups and downs. It’s not always rainbows and butterflies…trust me, but what keeps me motivated is knowing I’m a part of the bigger picture. Not only helping people (bonus) but really changing the way others view agents. Removing any negative stigmas and replacing that with a friendly face and relaxed attitude. Plus…my realtor girls out there keep me going! Even though we are all with different brokers, I rely on them to bounce off ideas. We are better together, and having a mindset of abundance is IMPERATIVE!

Comparing your business from back then to now, what has been the main thing that allowed you to expand your business?

Having confidence in myself and my abilities is what has really driven by business overall. Being authentic to who I am, how I conduct business and interact with my clients is a game-changer. There’s no 1 way to do this business and be successful. The main thing is to truly be yourself and that attracts ideal clients. Setting goals and having a vision for my business has helped catapult my career as well. And I’m a HUGE advocate for social media, it’s helped me connect with people from all over and is a tool we all need to utilize. I guess that’s more than 1 thing.

How Do You Work: (Do you wake up early, work late, communicate, what jobs do you do yourself, who do you talk to etc)?

I love this question! I am sure most people will respond with each day is different…and while this is true, I do one thing every day; The Miracle Morning! What’s The Miracle Morning? It’s an approach to setting out to make every day amazing by focusing on 6 key factors before you start your work day. The Life S.A.V.E.R.S. ~ S = Silence (meditation/prayer), A = Affirmations, V = Visualization, E = Exercise, R = Reading, & S = Scribing (Journaling). Intentionally setting aside time for ME every morning allows me to be the BEST version of myself I can be. The rest of my day falls into place after that. Block scheduling helps as well.

When did you realize you were successful/made it and how did you feel/celebrate?

That’s a tough one. I don’t know if I will ever consider myself as having “made it”…because I strive to continually grow and learn. I will say, having my first closing was a pivotal moment. It gave me the confidence to know I was exactly where I was supposed to be. As for now, I’m on a major upturn: I will be speaking on 2 different panels this year to discuss real estate and marketing and also the launch of my coaching business shows me that I must be doing something right.

Looking back, what could you have done sooner to get to that point quicker?

Honing in to who I am and being authentic from the get go. Just because 1 agent does things a certain way, doesn’t mean it’s the right way for me.

What should other real estate entrepreneurs reading this be focusing on to expand their own business?

SOCIAL MEDIA. I can’t say this enough…and this is why I started my coaching business. We are in the information age and you need to have a great online presence.

What do you consider the main differences between those people who have been successful in your industry and those who have failed?

I think successful people adapt to change and are willing to take risks. Just because something may have worked for you back then doesn’t mean it still works.

How has social media and online marketing affected your real estate business? How much more success have you had now after implementing social media and online marketing efforts?

Perception is reality. I mean, this is how things are now. Social media and online marketing are where your clients are and if you’re not active on SM then you don’t look competent to potential clients. (Harsh I know…but true). If you don’t know how to use social media, then get a coach or hire someone to do it for you. Social media has helped build my business because it allows me to stay top of mind with my sphere and past clients. This allows for warm introductions and referrals (our favorite word)! I’ve gained more listings and people are finding me now! Utilizing social media has freed my time and efforts for finding new business.
