What inspired you to start in real estate and how did you motivate yourself to keep going?

I have always enjoyed working with clients. Assisting people navigate one of their most important purchases is truly a rewarding experience. Every deal has its own set of obstacles and I love using each challenge as a learning opportunity. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, something else gets thrown your way. But with every transaction and hurdle you overcome in the industry, you become that much more skilled to advise your clients on their real estate needs.

What should other real estate entrepreneurs reading this be focusing on to expand their own business?

It’s challenging now trying to network. With the world that we’re living, growing a network is not as easy as it once was. Now is the time to tap into your current network, maintain those relationships and make sure those people know you are there for them when they want to make their home purchase. Take this time to get organized – whether that’s nailing down your marketing strategy, cleaning up your contacts. There is always work to be done.

How has social media and online marketing affected your real estate business? How much more success have you had now after implementing social media and online marketing efforts?

I don’t believe that I will necessarily be selling properties from posting listings on my Instagram account. However I’ve noticed that social media is a fantastic way to remind people that I work in real estate, so when one day they are ready to look for properties I’m the first one they think of. I love using Instagram stories to share articles, deals I’ve recently closed, and interesting properties I’ve toured. I’ve found that this is what people typically respond well to and gets my audience engaged.

Did You Experience Failures? If So, What Did You Learn From Them?

I think I would be lying if I said every agent didn’t have that moment where they thought to themselves “did I make the right decision?” This industry is a total rollercoaster. Every failure and every challenge can either break you down or motivate you to keep pushing. I’ve always tried to use my failures as learning opportunities. It’s okay to make mistakes as long as we learn and grow to better ourselves and our business.

What do you consider the main differences between those people who have been successful in your industry and those who have failed?

Real estate is a relationship driven business. I go through life making connections not with the intention of the people becoming clients. For most, real estate is the largest and most important purchase they will ever make. People want their agent to be someone they know they can trust and has their best interests in mind. It’s important to focus on building true relationships not only clients.

Agents who go through life only looking for clients typically are not as successful in the long term.
