PROPERTYSPARK INTERVIEWS: Gogo Bethke, Real Estate Agent

She started out as a broke agent barely speaking english and with no sphere. She had to find a way to make it. A way to find strangers to work with her, and where else than social media.

What inspired you to start in real estate and how did you motivate yourself to keep going?

Getting licensed wasn’t even my idea. It was my neighbors idea. She is a marketing director for a local title company and she thought with my personality (social butterfly) I would make a good Realtor. So I listened to her and got licensed. I though initially it’s just as easy as you see on HGTV. Well, reality hit very fast and I realized that this is a VERY tough industry to make it in. But I am the sorest loser you’ll ever meet. So I had to figure out HOW am I going to make a name for myself without marketing dollars, without sphere, …etc. I turned to social media cause it allowed me to reach anyone who had a FB account. Originally I started out on FB business page, then Instagram. And today 100% of my business comes from those sources and sphere.

Comparing your business from back then to now, what has been the main thing that allowed you to expand your business?

Social media… All of the agents that joined #teamgogo came from there too. All of the $75M+ transactions came from there too. All of my opportunity came from social media.

What’s the most profitable aspect of your business, why do you think this is and how can others apply this to what they are doing?

I have over 7 different income sources. The biggest one is Gogo’s Bootcamp. It got to a point with social media that I was constantly asked how do I do this, why do I do this, and I was repeating myself all the time. So I turned my knowledge into a course and now I train other Realtors how to build their own brand and turn it into a lead generation magnet.

When did you realize you were successful/made it and how did you feel/celebrate?

The first time I felt like I made it was when I made $156K in a year. I claimed that I would make $150K by December of that year and I did. The Universe always delivers.

Looking back, what could you have done sooner to get to that point quicker?

I never joined a team cause I had too much ego. I would have joined a team and soaked up sooooooo much information, training and then went out on my own. Instead I made an ego decision and took me 3 years to start making real money.

What should other real estate entrepreneurs reading this be focusing on to expand their own business?

What do you think I’m going to say? Social media!!! Social media its where it’s at. You have access to absolutely anyone. You can target people by certain demographics, and retarget the people that visit your sites. Your marketing dollars are well spent and kept low.

How has social media and online marketing affected your real estate business? How much more success have you had now after implementing social media and online marketing efforts?

That’s what I’ve always done. Social media IS my business.

How did you build your team?

With the power of social media. Almost all the agents reached out to me. They followed me on Instagram or Facebook. I would say 80% of the agents on #teamgogo I’ve never met. We are in almost every state in the US, we have agents is Canada too.

How did you become a good leader?

Well, describe “good leader”. LOL
I definitely have my very specific eastern European tough love flaire. We have a LIVE #teamgogo training every single Wednesday at 1pmEST and also an Agent Attraction mastermind on Friday mornings at 10am EST. I’m always there! I schedule my life around the team meetings. My goal in life to help as many people as I possible can to reach their American dream!

Did You Experience Failures? If So, What Did You Learn From Them?

Every failure is a lesson. You learn the lesson and you move on.

What do you consider the main differences between those people who have been successful in your industry and those who have failed?

The ones who have failed lollygagged all day. In this industry the 80/20 rule is more like the 90/10 rule. 10% of the Realtors do 90% of the business. The average Realtor sells 1-2 houses a year.

I can see it daily. Agents call me all the time for advice and when I tell them what I would do, which is the reason they called in the 1st place, they say “oh I can’t do that”. WHY??? It’s not that they can’t, they WON’T!!! Huge difference!
